I love art built in nature and on Pinterest the other day I came across Laura Ellen Bacon’s work from the UK. Her “Nests” are made from natural materials set in a way where people can interact with them within their surroundings.
I love that you can’t really tell the difference between the leaves and the branches in this piece. This work was done in 2011 and is called, “Forms of Growth.”
These to me look less like nests and more like hives. I love that she complements the scenery in which she’s working. I do wonder how long her installations stay up once they’re built and if she dissects them entirely or leaves them more intact.
I also love when things look like the above – like it’s an uncontainable form. Like when glass is poured into a metal, wired vessel or something along those lines.
How cool – a whole forest of nests. Laura is based in England, she’s eight years my senior and her CV says she’s based in Derby. I’m not quite sure where that is but her work does remind me of Patrick Dougherty who I’ve written about here as well as Gyongy Laky.
She also has works for sale, not just her installations. This set of three would go great in NH at my parents’ farm. They look like the huge blown insulation balls we already have rolling around only considerably more intricate!
This is my favorite – I think because of the contrast. Love her stuff, makes me excited for when it’s not winter anymore.
